In my experience as a teacher - almost ALL former home school students are more secure, self-controlled, and kind hearted people in the room. I attribute this to the basic fact that their parents poured into them with time and effort. This does not mean all parents should stay at home and those who do not set their students up for failure or that home school parents are better than school teachers. It does mean that they learned with someone who cares without 29 other students who also need the instructors attention. This is why I love equipping home school parents with even more information on their student with personality and learning style assessments in order to strategize and create effective teaching plans. It is also a joy to teach these students in areas of weakness, because sometimes it is hard to practice a skill that is hard with your parent that you want to always praise you. Tutoring can also help home school students get ahead in high school credits they are ready for but mom and dad may feel not ready to teach.
