Going Outside & Why

As the sun warms up our lives, it is up to us to allow our children time outside. I know many who want their children to grow academically may think this is wasted time, but there is nothing our brains need more than to experience the world our Master created. Other than just "getting energy out," going outside can have many positive effects.Years ago, when I read Smart Moves: Why Learning in Not All in Your Head by Dr. Hannaford, I was astonished by how much traditional education goes against the body's natural biological way of learning. Just one area is how the Lord made our eyes specifically to take in the environment of the outdoors. Montessori, who was a medical doctor before creating an educational system, found that desks were literally creating Scoliosis in children. Additionally, many of us also know that exposure to the sun also helps our bodies gain Vitamin D and Serotonin, which many refer to as the "happy hormone." We also receive more Melatonin, known as an anti-aging hormone, which can help us parents as we play with our children outside!

So after reading a book, go outside and play.
